About

Michael Tovar is the Global Head of Performance and Rewards for ING since 1 November 2018. Michael is responsible for driving the performance management and reward agenda for ING Group and supporting the CHRO, Group CEO and the Remuneration Committee of the Supervisory Board. Michael is originally from the United States and has been living abroad for the last 15 years. Before joining ING in 2018, Michael held senior level global reward roles with Zurich Insurance Group and the Tetra Laval Group including Tetra Pak. Over the past 25 years Michael gained deep experience across the full remit of global rewards including: executive and equity compensation, performance management, international mobility, broad-based compensation, pensions and benefits, remuneration tax and regulations. Michael has advised executive committees, non-executive boards and company owners. Michael holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. Prior to his professional career in rewards, Michael was an adjunct faculty member at two colleges in the Chicago area where he predominantly taught logic and critical thinking, ethics and business ethics, philosophy of religion and world religions.

We all recognize and experience the changing business context with technology (openAI), social, political, economic, climate, and lifestyle trends. As a result of these trends, people and organization issues are top of mind for business executives, boards, customers, investors, and regulators. These trends will require new assumptions about the future of work today and HR’s evolving role to respond to these assumptions. This keynote will highlight four emerging assumptions: connecting the inside to the outside (outside/in), harnessing uncertainty, personalizing work, and navigating paradox.
